Grape

Our country comes the fifth in worl grape production. Nearly 2/3 of the grapes grown are seeded, and 1/3 of them are seedless. Considering production according to regions; we can see that, seedless dried grapes are grown in Aegean Region, table grapes and wine grapes are grown in Marmara Region, early crops are grown in the Mediterranean Region, and wine, fermentated, table, seeded and dried grapes are grown in Central and Southeastern Anatolia regions.

Nearly 30% of the grapes are consumed at our tables, 37% of them are consumed dry, 30% of them are consumed as grape molasses, pulp sheets, stringed walnuts with molasses, fermentated grape juice, and 3% of them are consumed as wine. Nowadays in Turkey, seedless grape comes first in table grape production intended for export. Sultanas seedless grape forms 95% of grape export in Turkey. In our country, seedless grape is grown almost in every region, and it is represented by the Aegean Region cities (Manisa, İzmir, Aydın) in foreign export. Russia, Germany and the European Union countries being the firsts, raw table grape is exported to many countries.

Grape export has improved with the development of UVAS system that enables raw grape to be stored for three months. Seedless dried grape are sold to 21 countries. Exported grapes are classfied into two main groups as seeded or seedless. Known local types are: Tarsus white, Antep black, Yalova type; and recently, new plantations such as Red Globe, Sugerone- Black Pearl, Crimson, Sultanas Seedless, Thomson, Superior, Alphfons, Rezaki (Mevlana).
Some stored types are consumed, presented until January.
