Pomegranate

Pomegranate has an important role in Turkish fruit growing and foreign export. Turkey is found within the main land of this fruit. Main and regular plantations are carried out in the Mediterranean, Aegean and Southeastern Anatolia regions. It is grown in Finike, Kemer, Antalya, İzmir and Mersin. It has various types differing in fruit size, rind colour and thickness, grain colour, softness of stone, and juiciness. It also has different types for our tables and for industry. Main buyer countries are Russia, Germany, Austria, The United Arab Emirates, Belgium and Denmark. While Arabian countries prefer the sweet types, European countries prefer the red rinded, sweet and mildly sour types. Hejaz type is important in export (to European countries). thanks to the special structure of its rind, pomegranate can be stored from 4 to 6 months under various conditions. Pomegranate is also used industrially.

Marketing Period: July-November. Stored fruits are put on market until February and may be exported.
