Tomato, which had started to be grown in the Mediterranean Region in 1900s, is now among the most important vegetables, and Turkey comes the third in world production. In our country, tomatoes are grown in Aegean, Marmara, Mediterranean, Central Anatolia regions and passage areas to be used at homes or in industry. As well as canning, tomotoes are mostly used in paste sector. Tomoto processing sector is quite advanced in Turkey. It comes the fourth in tomato paste export.
In this sector, production is mainly carried out in Marmara and Aegean regions. Early (spring-summer) and fall (autumn-winter) types can be grown both in open areas and in green houses. Lately; production of cherry tomotoes, which are used in salads and dishes, has rapidly improved.
