Zucchini

In our country, 292.000 tonnes of summer zucchinis were being grown in 2004. Most production is made in open areas and under a small coat. Summer zucchinis are mainly consumed raw and some are consumed as frozen, dried or in baby foods. Features of the fruit change according to type. Their colour is mostly dark, fair or light green; and yellow-orange in some types. Chios, Creta, Calabashes and Gourds are among the summer types.In our country,light green (Chios) and dark green (Creta) zucchinis are mainly grown. Production amounts differ according to different consumption habits of the regions.

Production is mostly carried out in Lüleburgaz, Babaeski-Kırklareli; Çorlu-Tekirdağ; Merkez, Uzunköprü-Edirne; Adapazari and Nevşehir. Cucurbita pepo l. seeds are reported to have been planted in Thrace Region approximately 20-25 years ago. They had come into Thrace Region from Greece, been adopted there by the producers and got spread.

  • Cucurbita pepo
